“Vedogon-Theatre” is the only professional drama theatre in Zelenograd.

It was founded and directed by Kurochkin Pavel Viktorovich, Honoured Artist of Russia, award winner of the Mayor of Moscow, associate professor of the M. S. Shepkin Higher Drama School based on State Academic “Maly” Theatre of Russia.

The theatre was initially formed as children's studio of theatre arts. It was founded in 1985 by the graduates of the M. S. Shepkin Higher Theatre School Pavel Kurochkin and Elena Shkurpelo. That was the first step to the main aim of building a professional theatre.

Anatoliy Smirnov, a board chairman of “Tekhnopolis” innovative bank, believed in this idea. Having encouraged another few businessmen, who later financially supported the studio, he helped the team to move to a new level.

In autumn, 1992 the first theatrical season of “Vedogon-Theatre” opened by the performance “About good places, light dreams and damned life” based on P. Romanov's stories and staged by P. Kurochkin.

The name of the theatre has its origin in the ancient Slavic word “Vedogon” that came from the remote past to symbolize the life-giving power of fire and sun. It was believed in ancient times that there is a spirit living in every man, which is going to determine his life. To evoke as well as to keep the creativity of a man is what “Vedogon” considers essential in its activity.

The theatre is experimenting finding its place in various genres. At present time “Vedogon-Theatre” cooperates with stage director, professor of the M. S. Shepkin High Theatre School , composer, Honoured Arts Worker of Russia, laureate of state prize of Russia K. Volkov, artists Y. Tseglov, Y. Gurinovich, I. Gurinovich.

In 1994 owing to the support of “Tekhnopolis” innovative bank headed by A. N. Smirnov, prefect of Zelenograd Administrative District of Moscow A. Ishchuk, deputy prefect T. N. Zabelina, President of the Shepkin High Theatre School, Honoured Arts Worker of Russia professor N. N. Afonin, “Vedogon” targeted course started its classes.

The graduates of the Shepkin High Theatre School as well as ex attendants of the studio, who finished the targeted course, became the core of the theatre's troop.
