2009 year    Jule

July, 30 was marked by a grand opening of a newly-built viaduct across Oktyabrskaya railway in the 8th microdistrict.

Many Zelenograd citizens came to participate in the celebration and that was the perfect evidence of the fact that this event was awaited by the whole city. The previous viaduct was closed in early May, 2008 and Zelenograd citizens who have never been used to heavy traffic, felt uneasy at once. In course of a year heavy traffic on Solnechnaya alley became a common everyday thing. Both motorists and passengers had nothing but to be patient and wait for a new viaduct.

Engineering design and construction of the viaduct was envisaged by Moscow government’s executive order on “Design and construction of viaduct across Oktyabrskaya railway in the 8th microdistrict of Zelenograd in 2004-2007” and the Agreement on the construction of special technology development zone in Zelenograd signed by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Moscow in 2006.

The project presupposed that the viaduct was to start operating in the second quarter of 2010. But as this project is of paramount importance for the city, the construction process was under prefect Smirnov’s personal control. The builders really did their best and the job was done in late July of 2009, right a year earlier than it was supposed.

Technical characteristics of the viaduct are as follows: length – 150 m, weight – 1, 5 thousand tones, the bridge has 6 arms, two traffic lanes at each side, as well as a safety lane and pavements. There is a pedestrian underpass from Solnechnaya Alley’s side. Its steps are heated in winter and it is equipped with ramps for disabled people.
